Itinerary
8 nights
Day 1
Upon your arrival at the airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at your leisure to relax and recover from your flight. You may choose to explore some of Istanbul on your own. Your ground host will be happy to provide you with some orientation tips. Your welcome dinner will be in an enjoyable setting. Overnight in Istanbul. (D)
Day 2
This morning you take a flight to Antalya, an historic town on Turkey's southern coast. You will have a full day of sightseeing in Antalaya, including visits to the Mediterranean Civilization Museum and the old town and harbor of Antalya. Overnight in Antalya. (B,L,D)
Day 3
Today will be a day of seeing some of the Roman sites in this southern region, including Perge, Aspendos and Side. Late afternoon return to Antalya. Amidst the windy streets of old Antalya, you will find many dining options to explore on your own tonight, or, you may choose to eat independently at your hotel. Overnight in Antalya. (B,L)
Day 4
This morning you drive to Dalyan along the Tourquoise coast. Dalyan is often the starting or ending point for coastal yachting cruises. You will visit the ruins at Phaselis and Myra (Demre). You then board your Turkish yacht (“gulet”) from Myra, for a cruise along the coast, exploring the historic coves, as well as the Sunken City. Dinner will be prepared by your crew. Overnight on the yacht. (B,L,D)
Day 5
Today you continue your yacht cruise with a visit to Patara and Kaunos-rock cut graves. At Kaunos, you change to a small riverboat for a visit to the delta and the rock cut graves. You leave your boat and board a bus again, driving to Dalyan. Overnight in Dalyan. (B,L,D)
Day 6
Morning drive to Seljuk. You will visit Didyma and Miletus en route. In Seljuk, you will have the option to visit a handicraft workshop. Overnight in Seljuk. (B,L,D)
Day 7
The primary destination for today will be Ephesus, the most expansive antiquity site in Turkey. After visiting Ephesus, you will also visit what is purported to be Mary's House, the mother of Jesus, as well as a visit to the museum. Following lunch in a local restaurant, you will drive to Izmir where you depart on an afternoon flight to Istanbul. Upon arrival in Istanbul, you will be on your own to explore or shop. Dinner in Istanbul is on your own. Overnight in Istanbul. (B,L,D)
Day 8
Full day of sightseeing in Istanbul, including the Hippodrome area, which includes Topkapi Palace, Haigha Sophia, Blue Mosque and the Grand Bazaar. Lunch will be included. Farewell dinner in an interesting restaurant. Overnight in Istanbul. (B,L,D)
Day 9
Transfer to the hotel for your flight back to the US. (B)
